Little history at Butlerstown
The Kellehers farm at Butlerstown House in Glanmire, near Cork City. The original house dates from at least the 18th century with a recorded sale to Samual Martin in 1791 The Martin family remained in the house for four generations. It belonged to the Joyce family for 70 years, and was bought by Edwin Hay Pickwood, a retired col. From the Royal Artillery in 1913.
The house was set on fire during the civil war, after which Col. Pickwood moved to New Zealand, selling the house to John Kelleher from Dripsey, Co. Cork - grandfather to John Kelleher who farms at Butlerstown today. The central farm yards all feature old stone buildings and stables and there are a lot of stone walls feathered around the farm still. The Kelleher family are currently in the midst of a major restoration programme in terms of restoring and repointing the old stonework, which will extend to re-designing an old enclosed garden to the rear of the house. Agnes Kelleher explains that they have so far worked their way around about half of the stonework. The Kelleher family won the Dairygold/CMP Quality Liquid Milk Award for 1999.
